Thailand - Hua Hin Travel and Tours

Thailand - Hua Hin Travel and Tour options with IVHQ

Hua Hin is unlike other Thailand beach towns. While it is classified as a beach resort, it has a distinctly authentic flavour to it, and is a common travel favourite for Thai families as a result. There’s plenty to offer visitors both nearby and afar while on the IVHQ Thailand - Hua Hin program.

You can also explore more Thailand travel and tour options here and our second Thailand volunteer program based in Northern Thailand.

In and around Hua Hin

A two hour drive south of Bangkok, Hua Hin is a small city set on the coast. It’s built a reputation as a place for travelers keen to mix an easy going lifestyle with a genuine insight to normal Thai life. Here’s a taste of some of the local activities on offer.

Dive in

Hua Hin is set on the coast, so it’s only natural that there’s plenty to do at the beach. The golden sand beach is especially quiet during the week, but will be busier in the weekends when Thai locals escape the city. The beach is also well known as one of the top kite surfing beaches in Asia.

Aside from the beach, Hua Hin is home to the Vana Nava Water Park, with its multitude of slides, pools and waterfalls. It’s a fun day out and also hosts night events and parties regularly.

For those wanting to be even more active in the water, Black Mountain water park has all the slides and pools, as well as a wakeboarding park for anyone from beginners to professionals.

Discover Thai markets

Hua Hin is home to a number of markets different and authentic markets - this means visitors can go to them all and still uncover something unique at each one. One thing these markets do have in common is a lively atmosphere, great local food and cute souvenirs.

The Night Market is arguably the most popular in Hua Hin, operating out of its central location. Hua Hin’s floating market has a unique river setting and visitors can get to it by a traditional boat ride. The Plearnwan market has more of a quaint, charming feel to it, while the Cicada market operates in weekends and features more vintage artisans and live music.

Get to the golf course

Hua Hin is widely known for its golf, and boasts 10 top-class golf courses within 30 minutes of the central city. Many of these courses double as resorts or restaurants, so those not interested in playing golf can still go along and enjoy the day.

Further afield

Hua Hin in the weekends is markedly different to what it’s like during the week, as many Bangkok locals get out of the city and head south for a couple of days. For those wanting to escape the busy weekend periods, or just wanting to explore the wider area, there are some easy options within an hour’s drive.

Phraya Nakhon Cave

This magnificent Thai landmark takes a little bit of effort to get to, but as a result is pleasantly not overrun by tourists. On a nice day, the green and gold pagoda glitters inside an open-air cave, lit up by the overhead sun.

To get there, drive south for around 45 minutes to Bang Pu, and either catch a boat or walk 30 minutes to Laem Sala beach before trekking up the steep steps. It’s well signposted, but if you can’t find it then locals will help point you in the right direction. Proper walking shoes are recommended, and you will work up a sweat, but it’s worth it when you get to the top!

Santorini Park

Think the Greek version of Chinatown, except in Thailand. Santorini Park is a big slice of Greece based a 30 minute drive north of Hua Hin. It features classic Greek-style buildings and features with plenty of shops and restaurants and even an amusement park. The park is split into five zones, all with different themes and attractions. To really get a perspective on the whole operation, take a ride on the 40 meter high Ferris wheel in the Park zone.
